  • Never seen the attraction to Contabo, every time I look at their website it reminds of my days using Cobol. I take they are a good provider?

    The website looks old, true.
They have great pricing and I've been happy with their service. They don't have the best network but I think they are a good, long established provider. You can also check my review: https://tinyurl.com/sml4o8j

Tl;dr: Good service after the initial limit on I/O on their SSD line (which is in place to prevent abuse) had been lifted. Back then, @contabo_m from the other forum (whose real name I wont name) and me had a nice talk on the phone back then and everything went smooth from there on. Whenever I have an issue with Contabo I call their phone line and ask to talk to contabo_m to get things sorted :)

I don't use them right now, since I don't have any VPS at all but I'll always go consider them when I need a VPS.

Contabo in the past had unsustainably low prices and badly overloaded servers. They attracted buyers who were after the cheap price tag and often ended up unsatisfied. There are various bad reviews of them in the LET archives. More recently I've heard their stuff has been better, but I haven't tried myself. The current offers are still suspiciously cheap imho though, especially for the "ssd boosted" vps.

Nothing wrong with COBOL web sites: http://coboloncogs.org ;-)

Before back 2016 contabo was the best they had good support they had good pricing with few over load as compared to price but in 2018-2020 extremely overloaded servers
Almost no support if we call them then simply they ask for the contact via ticket :) but like virtualizor if you found aarbaz then ur with right person who will answer you clearly and help you to troubleshoot but uf your are with anyone else then it will be answered like ur playing a. Lucky withdraw game same here it was on call
But still what contabo offers in this price no one else can offers howevers about abuse yes they are strict and they charge 30£ for few serious cases if you ignore but they give a value to old customers ❤️ Most of the reviews was about reactivation fee on LET
    My ratings for contabo is

    Network 9.5/10
    Support 5/10
    Price 10/10

    Here's the announcement:

Definitely and they have kept the unlimited bandwidth by the looks of it. Good news if you want a US location.

I thought they might have gone with NVMe in the GER locations but not sure they could do that with current specs and pricing. I’m still happy with my VPS, not used support much other than increasing SSD speed but they answered in a timely manner and sorted it straight away.

  • They don’t offer DirectAdmin but have reduced pricing on cPanel and Plesk if you are wanting a paid control panel.

    Probably, yes.

The industry now requires locations around the world and most reasonably sized providers are working towards that goal.

Oh that's right, St. Louis. Wholesale is in Kansas City. That address seems to be Datotel, another colo host:

Amusingly they say they are using Optane to accelerate their SSD servers, the same way everyone else uses SSD to accelerate HDD. That tells me their SSD's would otherwise be seriously overloaded. So I'm still skeptical of this product, but it will be interesting to see how it goes once it has been around for a while. I expect that early users will get good performance (before the servers fill up), so I'll try not to be impressed by good initial benchmark results. If they're still good in a few months, that will matter more ;).

Added: The USA servers are SSD-only (HDD not available, at least for now), and there is a "location fee" (monthly) of €1 (small), €2 (med), €3 (large), or €6 (XL) due to higher costs in the US. That does make sense, and the prices are still very low. There is also a €4.95 setup fee depending on the rental period.

That announcement is good news for those who wanted Contabo like pricing in the US but on the other hand it is going to hurt smaller players trying to make honest buck by offering hosting at sustainable rates only

Contabo is horrible, your ddos protection is nonexistent, try using a little more bandwidth than the conventional one and you will receive a nice reduction. Buying an SSD VPS from them is like a Russian roulette, the disks can be older than you or extremely new, it varies according to your luck.

You can easily find any other data center cheaper and with much more quality than contabo if you look well.

First Benchmark from the other forum: https://tinyurl.com/uuulsc7

SSD I/O will be better after contacting the support though (since by default it is restricted anti abuse). Should be in the 2xx/3xx MB/s then.

For what it's worth Contabo also runs a Speedtest Server in St. Louis which you can select on speedtest.net :D
