ALWYZON

Hello LowEndSpiriters,

ALWYZON HAS LANDED IN VIENNA, AUSTRIA!

The new location is operated right out of the InterXion VIE1, home to the major Austrian internet hub VIX and an ideal gateway towards Central and Eastern Europe. In matters of services provided, expect comparable service as with our Dutch location: virtual servers running on the latest generation of Dell PowerEdge servers (14th Gen) and a redundant, multigigabit network powered by brand new Juniper equipment. And, all of that for the same level of incredible prices!

As a small Austrian firm ourselves, it is especially exciting to launch our services in our—in terms of affordable VPS services—exotic home nation. To share this excitment with you, all orders for the new location are eligible for a 10% recurring discount with the coupon code: HELLOVIENNA. Check out all possible configurations on our website or have a look at the featured plans in the table below.

But there is more: as a bonus for the LowEndSpirit community, any LES member that posts his order number in a comment below gets a 100% cashback on the first month of his order deposited into his Alwyzon account (valid for any future order or renewal).

Frequently Asked Questions

Will we see more locations anytime soon?
No, definitely not. Think of Alwyzon more like a small boutique; there aren‘t any intentions to build up a global spanning reach. On the contrary, lots of thought have been put into whether it‘s even worth to have two locations to maintain. But, as an Austrian company and since Austria is a much more underserved market than the Netherlands anyhow, that opportunity could not be passed up when a suitable deal arose.

Why isn't there any Virtual Server S plan in Austria?
The Virtual Server S is the by far most sold plan in the Netherlands, but it is also the plan with the lowest profit margin and those prices simply are not economical at the operating costs that we have to face in Vienna. So for now, these plans are yet not available in Austria.

What payment methods do you support?
You can pay via Credit Cards (processed by Stripe*), BanContact, EPS, giropay, iDeal and Paypal. If none of these payment methods is applicable to you, open a support ticket to pay via SEPA wire transfer.

*We know your credit card information is very sensitive and thus we will never store your credit card details on our servers. Instead, those are handled by the payment processor Stripe and we only store a token and the last four digits for later reference.

How long until my virtual server is ready to use?
Provisioning of new virtual servers is fully automated and takes about 5 minutes. As soon as your payment is received, the setup process is automatically launched for the operating system you selected in the checkout form. (Provided that our system didn't flag you for manual review.)

What kinds of usages are accepted?
In short: keep it legit and don't abuse the provided resources. No email spam, no file sharing, no Tor nodes, no Torrent and nothing that will hammer the shared CPU cores to 100% 24/7 (= no crypto currency miners, please). For a more detailed list, see the “Accepted Usage Policy” section of our Terms of Service.

What operating systems are supported?
You can either pick from the latest CentOS, Debian, Fedora, openSuse or Ubuntu releases pre-installed on your virtual server; or you can upload any ISO and install whatever operating system you would like to use instead.

What level of support is provided?
These are unmanaged virtual server offers, so you are expected to install and configure the server yourself. You get root access to the virtual server and a Linux distribution pre-installed, but you will have to setup any software according to your requirements.

Can I have a benchmark?
Yes, of course; we are on LES after all. :)

Have you considered getting connected? I've checked your test IPs from some of my servers and apparently even traffic originating in Austria gets handed over to Voxility in Frankfurt. I know, that's just a few ms of latency... but still.

Yes, of course. In fact, preparations have been made (= a port is dedicated for it on the switch panel and router), but at the current traffic levels it doesn't make much sense to actually connect. Let's fill up these nodes and change that. ;)

Renting space in the—rather pricy—InterXion without actually connecting to VIX would make little sense. Especially, since Internet Exchange traffic is the cheapest kind of traffic you can get. But, the most interesting members on the VIX don't use an open peering policy, so just connecting to the VIX wouldn't help much. Accessing the VIX through an intermediary—such as Voxility—actually makes more sense at the moment.

As indicated above, Voxility itself is connected to the VIX and peers with pretty much all members there. That already allows for less than 1 ms pings towards the networks of three major local carries, for example. But, you are free to PM me the IP and I'll see if there is anything I can do.

Ouwh... thanks! That's a very good point. I'll reach out to them, let's see if that can be changed.

Just as a short follow-up: the lack of IPv6 connectivity over the VIX should be resolved. :)

    Order #1431092117

Machine was installed within seconds after payment was done. =)

The SSH-key form during order seems to be a bit odd, I've entered multiple SSH keys (rsa, ecdsa ed25519) and red warning message appeared, for just a couple of seconds, that only RSA seems to be accepted. Anyway I proceeded, no issue for me.

The machine seems to be now provisioned without any keys.

What I expected: that all keys in openssh format will be passed or at least the RSA ones.

    Welcome on board!

Would you mind opening a ticket regarding the SSH keys with a few more details? Both, ecdsa/ed25519 and multiple keys should be supported. Would be happy to look into that.
