  • I see, but I will not use that. Currently my wife and I use DNS over TLS on iPhone & iPad.

A simple uptime dashboard using UptimeRobot API https://upy.duo.ovh
Currently using VPS from BuyVM, GreenCloudVPS, Gullo's, Hetzner, HostHatch, InceptionHosting, LetBox, MaxKVM, MrVM, VirMach.

I'm using Windscribe for the computer - and it's very good.
But this does look like a move that might take the business away from many other companies.

They've included several more services options for the customers:

The big ones trying to get bigger, and bigger.

  • I would NEVER use a VPN service especially by Apple.

You simply cannot trust Apple in any shape or form.

I think this is intended for an "average 'merican." Out of the box, comes with their phone.
In those terms, it's hard to beat by any competition (wish I were wrong).

  • MichaelCeeMichaelCee OGServices Provider

If you’re paying for iCloud storage then this is a pretty decent addition. As others say though, apple not best. Plus it’s safari/web only and not applicable for apps etc afaik

Which services do you use? I have CF but trying to limit CF dependency

I use AdGuard Home, Sir. Since version 13/14 iOS and iPadOS support DNS over TLS, but you need to install it as a profile using Safari. For reference you could read this article.

  • I was using iOS 15 beta with Safari. They used CloudFlare for their VPN service but with locations we won’t see in CloudFlare Warp or Warp+.

Now Apple changed IP owner to their IP space.

  • I turned on the private relay feature and it just bounces your traffic through the closest cloudflare or akamai servers, I've seen IPs from both.

Slight difference between this and warp is that it fully hides your IP, whereas Warp passes your real IP in the headers - and Warp is also speed capped iirc.

I guess it's one of the better options if you just want to hide your actual IP, not because I trust the networks they're routing through - but because it's probably a lot more battery-optimized than other always-on VPNs.
