Did you honestly use it often? Not a loaded question, to be honest; I did not even know it existed until someone said it's not working. :)

I use it all the time - it's my way of "catching" up so that the next visit shows "new" stuff. It's hard without it (for me) as otherwise I get lost on all the goings on.

LES and OGF have it right up there in the top banner/part and so it's really quick-n-easy to just skim, read whatever is interesting and mark all read so that the next visit is fresh.

Pretty please bring it back to the usual spot.

Oh sorry, my head is spinning today, I thought you were talking about drafts :), ok.

Well, my thinking was, you mess around and find the one you like; you are not switching theme in the middle of reading or posting, so effort/reward sum = reload is fine.

But maybe I am missing a common user case for switching themes; just because I don't see it does not make me right; happy to listen.

To me it the theme preference could change depending on the lighting conditions/ device used - especially when switching. I have rarely seen any implementation where page reload happens.

Wanted to simply point this out. It could be a low priority item.

Doing it for the main 3 (dark, light, grey) is fairly trivial, so thats done, hopefully that works for you. it still kind works when you go to vbulletin themes but not so much going back :)

  • vbulletin dark has some rough colour combinations; body.Section-Profile .ProfileOptions .Button-EditProfile and .theme-vbdark a, .theme-vbdark .Frame a (!important) clashing

The About page was very out dated. I made some minor changes to mention the handover of the forum and that there is no donation system

And I do exactly the same, and guessing we are far from alone.
So if I can add: "Please add it back to the header!"

ok so, from a functional perspective, the only thing remaining is switching the new member registration system to use cloudflare turnstyle instead of google recaptcha and manual audit from mod/admins, i am going to finish that today hopefully.

I understand the vbulletin themes are still a bit messy, they will probably be a longer term work in progress, the main 3 themes should be as they are supposed to be now and also with a none reloading switcher.

Mark All read is back, hopefully the header still works ok for special resolutions for visually impared.

If there is anything else you want changed, let me know, but please consider the wider audience when doing so.

after this I am going to work on the optimisation/speed more, its just basic memcached/opcache + cloudflare and fom tuning right now, for me it feels about the same as the old one even though I now have about 90ms extra latency, i am sure for usa peeps it feels faster.

Then we get to the blog :) finally!

@AnthonySmith large image upload fails without proper error message. If i am running network inspect mode, I can see the response replying with a HTML page with error saying file needs to be less them 5MB, but the upload fails with 400 error cause the javascript is expecting a json response...

I speak fluent sarcasm and broken logic. | I would agree with you, but thæn we’d both be wrong.

Registration is now done differently; new members flow now:

Register > Pass through Cloudflare Turnstyle > Check against stopforumspam black list > Answer some questions > answers to questions create a new post in the new members section > if +5 karma, they become a full member if -5 karma they get banned.

New members cannot see deals or offers sections, its all fully automatic.

No more manual approval and new registrations are actively encouraged to participate or be banned, please take it easy on new members :) they may not get the #dicks-humor

The other thread got nuked so

New user tag and senpai tag shows up as white on white on android, dark theme.

Also custom titles, the text colour doesn't work on dark theme. It's always white. So light backgrounds are no go.

Finally, I hope my custom title is under PG category

Yeah, I saw that sorry, it is fixed; you should not see any more senpai tags, i think maybe you fell for Falzo's joke? or maybe I assumed it was a joke and its not haha.

@AnthonySmith said: If you get negative 5 karma while you have a new member tag, you will be automatically rejected and banned.

Seems like a terrible idea. All you need is 5 alt/stolen accounts and you can get any new member banned. Imagine staff is away for a period of time, and a lot of people will get banned over this period because of that.

Its a fun idea, but it certainly needs manual approval by a staff member in the end. Its fuel for total chaos

I have similar views on the entire Reddit-style upvote/downvote system. I think it sucks, and "Thanks" alone is enough like in OG Vanilla. Its another thing that can be abused and fuel drama.

If it becomes a problem, I will solve it. You are right that could happen, but the reasons for reducing new member friction were discussed previously; if this is not the way, I will adapt.

You would have to be pretty damn sad to do that, I mean, left in a bush as a baby and never made any human connections your whole life and decided to focus your hate on strangers who are potentially bots on a small niche forum :)

Maybe it makes sense to increase barrier and count only accounts that have more karma. Not bulletproof either but at some point it will be just too much effort for someone to abuse sign up at some forum.

Posts like this would be the reason for anyone to do something like that. It doesn't take much to pull it off, and there is a large chance there will be drama and comments of mad people.

  • AnthonySmithAnthonySmith AdministratorHosting ProviderOG

haha ok, i guess I will add a minimum karma to vote into it then, then it'll self-fulfil as new members will need to be voted in to be able to vote and so on.

Man... 2026, what a time to be alive.
