VPS vs VDS vs Dedicated/Bare Metal?
Curious what everyone's decision making are on picking a hosted service.
My thought process is mostly around:
1. If it is for a personal/non-revenue project(s), go for as cheap as VPS as can handle it. (And I would migrate/upgrade it once I start to run into resource/access issues.)
2. I tend to move towards more premium options/hosts for VDS or Dedicated servers if it would hurt me financially or reputation if it were to perform poorly.
Why?

Fixed the poll, thanks @AnthonySmith!
For me, it all depends on what the project is. I determine the needs and goals of the project and go from there. It can also change as your project changes over time. Sometimes you can start with a VPS but you'll need to scale to dedicated resources. Other times you start with dedicated but realize you can just use a few small VPSs for half the price.
Recommended Providers: AdvinServers (aff) | TierHive (aff)
Each has its own advantages, and it depends on your project.
Someone needs to vote on noisy neighbor

imo noisy neighbour is the closest option to resource limits, a.k.a. fair usage policy on CPU, I/O, etc., so I voted for it.
only on dedicated servers do we actually get dedicated resources, especially with spinning disks, where I/O is very limited.
Dedicated servers can also have noisy neighbors. The server I got from ColoCrossing is a prime example of that. The resources are dedicated, but the network speed jumps between 1gbps and 1mbps... Basically completely unusable...
Sorry that was me, I was using my Dedirock Storage VPS to backup all my servers.
LOL! I knew it!
For me, uptime is the first priority, but security and support matter much. Even if pricing is attractive, I won't choose a provider with frequent downtime or poor network reliability.
